NAPPANEE — Sometimes, all it takes is a lucky bounce for a team to be victorious in a soccer match. That happened Thursday, as NorthWood junior Andre De Freitas’ free kick bounced through the defense and into the back of the net, giving the No. 14 (2A) Panthers a 1-0 victory over No. 16 (3A)…

The 1999 Goshen High School football season looked like a promising one with 21 letterwinners, including 11 starters, returning from a team that had worked its way up to the No. 1 ranking in the Class 4A poll during the previous season’s campaign.

NAPPANEE — Fourteen years ago, NorthWood High School didn’t have enough players to field a girls golf team. On Saturday, they enter the Warsaw sectional as the eighth-ranked team in the state and the favorites to repeat as sectional champions — leaving coach Adam Yoder doubting his own golf skills.

GOSHEN — Redshirt freshman placekicker Josh Gorball was perfect on all five of his PAT kicks for the Grand Valley State University Lakers in a 35-10 win over the Edinboro University Fighting Scots in a season opener in Allendale, Michigan.

MIDDLEBURY — Never being a program to shy away from top-notch competition, the Northridge High School girls soccer team hosted the No. 5-ranked Homestead Spartans Saturday afternoon at Todd Woodworth Field in Middlebury.

GOSHEN — For whatever reason, the Goshen RedHawks didn’t look like the same team that dropped a 31-3 decision to the Elkhart Central Blue Blazers last Friday.

MIDDLEBURY — Northridge loves running the football. Caid Lacey is good at running the football. Put those two together, and you get a performance like the one Lacey had Friday night.

NAPPANEE — It had been a while since NorthWood beat Concord in boys soccer. So long, in fact, that Panthers head coach Brad Duerksen couldn’t recall after the game how many years it had actually been since NorthWood won against their Northern Lakes Conference foe.

DUNLAP — For the first 10 minutes of the game Friday, Concord couldn’t get anything going. They had seven yards of offense and two punts kicked straight into the wind gave Elkhart Memorial two short fields to work with. The first one led to a Memorial touchdown, giving the Crimson Chargers a…

GOSHEN — Westview gave Goshen all they could handle in the first half, but a dominant second half led the RedHawks to an 8-1 victory over the Warriors Tuesday in Goshen.

GOSHEN — When Sam Grewe packs his bags to return from Lima, Peru, he will need to find a little extra room in his luggage.

MIDDLEBURY — Ten years ago, the Goshen Iron Horsemen Club asked Trever Schneider if he could help their organization. The hillclimbing club were struggling, financially, and needed some new perspectives to help save the organization.

NAPPANEE — “We dug deep and that’s a huge testament to this team,” said NorthWood football coach Nate Andrews Friday after he saw his Panthers open the season with a 35-21 victory against Jimtown.

GOSHEN — Splashing, pedaling and stepping their way, multiple generations of athletes took part in the 2019 Rock the Quarry Triathlon and Mile Swim presented by the Goshen Parks & Recreation Department .

LAGRANGE — A year ago, Jesse Maurer had one more rung to leap. He could see it. He could feel it. He could taste it. He was a matter of inches from achieving his goal.

GOSHEN — This could be one of the best seasons in local high school girls golf in recent memory, including several quality teams capable of advancing all the way to the state tournament and a couple of individuals also worthy of making the state finals.

SOUTH BEND — As he sat in the office of the road clubhouse at Four Winds Field Saturday night — blood on his face, a beer in his hand — Brian “The Crippler” Costello retold a story from one of the previous “Clash at the Cove” wrestling shows he runs every year.

With sophomore running back Stevie Scott III and an experienced offensive line returning, Indiana projected to have a strong running game heading into the 2019 season.

Yes, it’s just three games in the 2019 season. But even with Ryan Day replacing Urban Meyer as Ohio State coach, the Buckeyes so far have showed no signs of slowing down in their quest to win their fourth Big Ten title in six years.
