Freshman Samantha Steele (Northridge) had five hits, five stolen bases and a run scored for the Anderson Ravens women’s softball team in a twin bill with Alma College.

She had three hits and three steals as the Ravens posted a 3-0 win in the inaugural game at Scots’ Field in the opener and two hits, two steals and a run in a 5-2 loss in the nightcap.

Steele’s .474 batting average leads the Ravens (7-6). she has nine hits in 19 at bats to go with six runs scored and an RBI. She has appeared in 12 games (five starts).

Women’s Softball

Huntington freshman Kaitlyn Troyer (Goshen) doubled for the first hit of her collegiate career as the Foresters defeated Mount Marty 9-7.

Senior Cassie Boese (Northridge) scored a run for the Georgia State Panthers in a 3-1 win over Kennesaw State in the opening game of a twin bill and singled in a 3-1 loss in the nightcap.

The Saint Mary’s Belles notched four wins on a road trip to Florida. On the first day, the Belles topped Stevens Institute 5-2 and SUNY Potsdam 12.7. Sophomore Callie Selner (Elkhart Memorial) was the winning pitcher in the Stevens Institute contest. She allowed one earned run while striking out seven and walking three in a complete game. Selner helped herself at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a triple and two RBI. On the second day, the Belles defeated Geneva 8-3 and Ohio Wesleyan 3-2. Selner hurled all seven innings against Geneva, allowing five hits and three earned runs while fanning six and walking two.

Rose-Hulman junior Brianne Widmoyer (Elkhart Central) had three hits, an RBI and a run scored for the Engineers in a 10-7 loss to Oberlin in Danville, Kentucky.

Alverno College junior Stef Wilmore (Elkhart Central) was the Northern Athletics Conference player of the week for March 5-11. She batted .533 with two home runs, two doubles and seven RBI for the Inferno in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Florida.


Junior Kyle Konarski (Concord) was the winning pitcher for the Manchester Spartans in an 11-5 decision over Taylor. Konarski pitched 6 1/3 innings, striking out four and walking none for his first victory of the season. Taylor freshman Daimon Buck (Northridge) had a single and an RBI and junior Luke Hofsommer (Northridge) was the catcher.

Junior Adam Christner (Westview) tripled home two runs for the Huntington Foresters in an 8-0 victory over Marian in the first game of an MCC twin bill at Huntington. Marian was a 9-6 winner in the second contest.

Northern Illinois junior Jacob Goldenberg (Wawasee) pitched a perfect sixth inning and allowed just one base runner in the seventh as the Huskies dropped a 7-2 decision to Saint Louis. He pitched a total of 2 1/3 innings, allowing three hits and three earned runs to go with a walk and two strikeouts.

“Taylor (Nawrocki) and Jacob (Goldenberg) did a good job for us on the mound today and gave us a chance,” NIU coach Steve Joslyn said in a press release.

Sophomore Kyle Revella (Elkhart Christian Academy) had a double, single and a run scored for the Bethel Pilots in a 3-1 win over Grace College in the second game of an MCC doubleheader. Grace was a 7-4 winner in the first game.

Men’s Golf

Freshman David Long Jr. (Northridge) tied for 23rd among the individuals with an 80-81—161 total for the Missouri Baptist Spartans in the Millikin Spring Opener in Decatur, Illinois. The Spartans placed fifth out of 11 teams.

Women’s Track

Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne freshman Madelaine Baczynski (West Noble) placed 18th (9.03) in the 60-meter dash at the Summit League indoor championships at Fort Wayne.

Senior Tiffany Aikin (Elkhart Central) finished 23rd in the 400-meter hurdles (1:07.15) for the Indiana Tech Warriors in the Wake Forest Open at Kentner Stadium in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

Men’s Track

Indiana Tech junior David Army (Elkhart Central) placed ninth in high jump (6-5 1/2) in the Wake Forest Open at Kentner Stadium in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

Women’s Tennis

Sophomore Kristen Zakiewicz (Northridge) was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Lauren Vogel at No. 5 singles and senior Stephanie York (Jimtown) a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Shamariah Rojas at No. 3 for the Valparaiso Crusaders in a 6-3 win over Biola in LaMirada, California. Zakiewicz and freshman Megan Barthels lost 8-6 to Rojas and Kelly Thompson at No. 1 doubles. York and freshman Kaitlyn Hamel were an 8-3 winner over Mariah Pace and Jessica Thong at No. 2 doubles.

Bowling Green junior Katie Grubb (Elkhart Memorial) and classmate Maddy Eccleston posted an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles for the Falcons in a 5-2 loss to the University of Houston in Las Vegas, Nevada. Grubb lost 7-6, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.

Men’s Tennis

Valparaiso senior Adam Whitmer (Westview) finished a recent trip to Florida with a 4-1 record at No. 4 singles. He recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win over Jarrett Siwiec of Siena in a 7-0 sweep, suffered a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Ike Kiro in a 4-3 win over Jersey Institute University, defeated Cameron Relic 6-1, 6-1 in a 5-2 win over Franklin & Marshall, defeated Matt Smith 6-1, 6-1 in a 6-1 win over Indianapolis and topped Sean Spellberg 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 in a 4-3 loss to Colgate. Whitmer teamed with junior Chris Baum for a 4-1 mark at No. 1 doubles. They defeated Peter Collins and Alex Burbine of Siena 8-1, Petr Rousar and Victor Martinez of Jersey Institute 9-8 (7-5), Alex Poe and Smith of Indianapolis 8-6, William MacArthur and Ross Silverberg of Franklin & Marshall 8-6 and lost to Parker Lewis and Alec Goldstein of Colgate 8-6.
