GOSHEN — The high school boys basketball season is about a month away, but in Indiana it is never too early to start thinking about the sport.
A pair of all-star basketball games, featuring some former Tiffany’s AAU players, some former NCAA Division I players, an undefeated all-star Amish League team and a number of former Westview standouts, are slated for Saturday night at Westview High School, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:30.
Tickets are $5, with ages 10-and-under admitted free, for the event that is a fund-raiser for the LaGrange Communities Youth Centers.
A special guest is also expected and there will be a silent auction with some autographed basketballs.
One of the games matches a Tiffany’s Dream Team versus Westview Legends while the other matches Eash Sales Amish All-Stars vs. a Tiffany’s Reunion Team.
Players that are expected to appear are Andre Owens, Jeermal Sylvester, Daimon Beathea, Jaraan Cornell, JD Hershberger, Yul Lee, Kerry Pates, Jeremy Neeley, Lincoln Glass, Corey Sutherland, Marcus Wilson, Nick David, Michael Christner, Ryan Yoder, Kurt Lambright, Dominique Neeley and Seth Wagler. Also, Taylor Aspy, Chandler Aspy, Austin Miller, Weston Dunker, Adam Christner, Chris Ponce, Chris Wiggins, Ryan Thwaits, Jared Shaw, Andrew Hershberger, Duke Johnson, Derrick DeShone and John Morningstar.
Coaches for the games are current Westview High School coach Rob Yoder, former Westview coach Troy Neeley and Tiffany’s sponsor Fritz Helmuth.
Beathea is a 1991 Elkhart Memorial High School graduate where he scored 1,228 points. He was a McDonald’s Honorable Mention All-American and went on to play three year at Michigan State where he was named to the Big Ten All-Defensive squad three times.
Cornell played at South Bend Clay High School, leading the Colonials to the 1994 state championship. He went on to play at Purdue University from 1996-2000.
Owens is a Perry Meridian High School graduate and was an Indiana All-Star. After going to college at Indiana and Houston he played two years in the NBA for the Utah Jazz and the Indiana Pacers.
JD Hershberger and Andrew Hershberger are former Goshen High School standouts, Thwaits is a former Fairfield High School star, Johnson and DeShone are former Jimtown High School players on the 2004 Class 2A state championship team.
DeShone is the new boys basketball coach at Concord High School.
Among the former Westview players are Yoder, Dominique Neeley, Taylor Aspy, Chandler Aspy, Adam Christner and Ponce.
