Another casualty in the already troubled economy of Nappanee and RV support industry surfaced Wednesday with the announcement of Terra Group’s demise.

Nappanee-based Terra Group LLC, formerly Nappanee Window, has announced it will close its doors in Goshen, Nappanee and Riverside, Calif., for good. The company manufactured RV doors and components, cargo awnings, ramps and doors and aluminum extrusions.

“Terra Group was a very good Chamber member and an excellent corporate citizen, willing to be involved in a large share of activities the Chamber was working on and will be missed,” Nappanee Chamber of Commerce President Larry Andrews said. “They’re going to leave a void.”

The closure comes only three and a half months after a restructuring in June that company president Steve Brenneman said would help to keep the business afloat and successful.

“These actions, while painful, will help Terra Group realign itself with the current marketplace and prepare for growth in years to come,” he said in a press release at the time.

Earlier in the year, the company was recognized for its recycling efforts with 13 RV manufacturers. Together, they redirected more than 2,000,000 pounds of waste to new products in one year.

In late July, Terra Group sold its share of Lucid Energy Technologies LLC to Vigor Clean Tech., an Ontario-based company “focused on developing and generating creative, sustainable energy solutions,” according to its Web site. Lucid Energy Technologies was developing small hydro-electric plants. A test generator was installed earlier this year at the Bonneyville Mill County Park near Bristol.

Terra Group operated Nappanee RV Components, Nappanee Transit Components and Goshen division The Mill.
