POLICE NEWS: Two injured in buggy-auto crash

Two people were injured in a buggy-automobile crash Friday evening.

According to a report, a 2015 Chrysler 200 driven by Robert Parker III, Marysville, Ohio, was traveling northwest in the 2800 block of Lincolnway East around 10:06 p.m. when his vehicle struck the rear of a horse-drawn buggy operated by Emma Schwartz, Goshen, causing the buggy to flip over. The horse then became loose and ran from the scene. It's unknown if the horse sustained injury, the report stated.

Schwartz and a passenger were transported to Goshen Hospital with complaints of pain. Schwartz complained of pain throughout the left side of her body. The passenger complained of pain in her head and stomach areas. Parker did not sustain injury.

The buggy was towed due to disabling damage, and the horse was transported the owner's home.

LEAVING THE SCENE

• Annette Boys, Goshen, reported to Goshen police a vehicle struck her van near Plymouth and Indiana avenues around 7:50 a.m. Friday. The impact caused damage to the driver-side mirror of Boys' vehicle, according to a report.

• Dorothy Rose, Elkhart, reported to Goshen police being involved in a crash at the intersection of Elkhart and Greene roads around 10:15 a.m. Friday. Rose's vehicle sustained extensive rear end damage as a result of the crash, and the other driver involved left the scene without providing any information, according to a report.

CHECK DECEPTIION

An employee of Maple Court Place, 2932 Elkhart Road, reported to Goshen police a case of check deception.

FRAUD

Kent Phouangmalay, Goshen, reported to Goshen police losing $1100 in Google Play money to a phone scam around 5:11 p.m. Friday.

BATTERY

• A Goshen woman reported to Goshen police having a soda thrown at her around 3:57 p.m. Friday while in the drive-thru at McDonald's, 2001 Lincolnway East.

• An Albion man reported to Goshen police he was battered by a woman known to him around 8:03 p.m. Saturday in the 400 block of North Ninth Street. The man refused medical treatment.

• A Goshen woman reported to Goshen police she was battered by a person known to her around 10:19 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Johnston Street. The woman refused medical treatment.

• A Goshen woman reported to Goshen police she was battered by a person known to her around 3:11 a.m. Sunday in the 1900 block of Elkhart Road. The woman refused medical treatment.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF

• Ed Mora, Granger, reported to Goshen police the passenger window of his truck was smashed out sometime early Saturday morning while it was parked at Wings Etc., 4644 Elkhart Road.

• Joshua Baxter, Goshen, reported to Goshen police criminal mischief to his camper in the 1400 block of Hickory Place around 4:51 p.m. Saturday.

• Gabriel Rodriguez Diaz, Goshen, reported to Goshen police his phone was broken during an altercation with another person in the 200 block of Brookside Manor around 1:35 a.m. Sunday.

VANDALISM

On Saturday, Amanda Apple, New Paris, reported to Goshen police vandalism and theft in the 2900 block of County Home Road around 5:20 a.m. Friday.

BURGLARY

On Saturday, Rick Neubert, Goshen, reported to Goshen police Better World Books, 215 S. Main St., was burglarized sometime overnight Friday.

CHILD IN NEED

Goshen police were dispatched to the 300 block of Oakridge Avenue around 2:56 p.m. Saturday in reference to a boy who appeared to be in need of assistance. Police located the boy near Indiana and Wilden avenues, and returned him to his residence.

ARRESTS

• Joel C. Loftus, 505 Arbor Court, Apt. 5, Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police around 7:56 a.m. Friday on a charge of possession of methamphetamine, after he was found slumped over the wheel at Main and Johnson streets. Loftus was incarcerated at the Elkhart County jail.

• Chyna Keys, 19, 727 Monroe St., Elkhart, was arrested by Goshen police around 7:53 p.m. Friday on a charge of shoplifting, following an incident at Walmart, 4024 Elkhart Road. Keys was incarcerated at the Elkhart County Jail.

• Jamal Washington, 2121 Indiana Ave., Elkhart, was arrested by Goshen police around 7:53 p.m. Friday on a charge of shoplifting, following an incident at Walmart, 4024 Elkhart Road. Washington was incarcerated at the Elkhart County Jail.

• Johnny Rodriguez, 55, 120 Brookside Manor, Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police around 8:52 p.m. Friday on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, following a traffic stop for multiple traffic violations near the intersection of Lincolnway East and Reynolds Street. Rodriguez was incarcerated at the Elkhart County Jail.

• Jeffrey A. Hill, 47, 210 S. 23rd St., Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police around 9:20 p.m. Friday on a charge of operating while intoxicated, after officers were called to 404 W. Oakridge Ave. in reference to a vehicle that was driven onto the property, causing damage to the yard. Hill was incarcerated at the Elkhart County Jail.

• Victoria Moore, 28, 415 Elkhart St., Wakarusa, was arrested by Goshen police around 1:10 a.m. Saturday on a charge of operating while intoxicated, following a traffic stop for a traffic violation near the intersection of Plymouth Avenue and Foxbriar Lane. Moore was incarcerated at the Elkhart County Jail.

• Alberto Avila, 21, 103 Roxbury Park, Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police around 10:07 a.m. Saturday on charges of resisting law enforcement, domestic battery, false informing and criminal mischief to a police vehicle. Avila also had a valid Elkhart County warrant. Avila was incarcerated at the Elkhart County Jail.

• John Whalen, 59, 310 Yorktown Drive, Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police around 10:48 p.m. Saturday on a charge of operating while intoxicated, following a traffic stop near Elkhart and Bashor roads for a traffic violation. Whalen was incarcerated at the Elkhart County Jail.

• Zachary Garcia, 21, 390 Roxbury Park, Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police around 10:03 p.m. Saturday on charges of leaving the scene of a property damage accident and criminal recklessness. Garcia was incarcerated at the Elkhart County Jail.

• Armando Salazar, 24, 416 Middlebury St., Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police around 12:31 a.m. Sunday on a charge of possession of marijuana. Salazar was released pending a court date.

• Tiffany Smith, 24, 123 Blackport Drive, Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police around 2:39 a.m. Sunday on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of a syringe, following a traffic stop near the intersection of Elkhart and Peddlers Village roads. Smith was incarcerated at the Elkhart County Jail.

• Jason Harris, 24, Fort Wayne, was arrested by LaGrange County police around 10:15 p.m. Friday on a charge of operating without ever receiving a license. Harris was incarcerated at the LaGrange County Jail.
