A Kimmell woman was killed when her vehicle struck a tree head-on at 8:24 p.m. Saturday. A passenger was also injured.

Killed in the crash was Michelle L. Mojica, 31, 2955 N. East St.

According to Noble County Deputy Sean Lundy, Mojica was driving a 1995 Ford Taurus south on U.S. 33 when her car drifted off the right side of the road and struck a large tree head on at the C.R. 725 West intersection.

Mojica was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger, Jorge Martinez, was airlifted to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne by a Samaritan helicopter. He was listed in stable condition Sunday morning.

Lundy reported that Mojica did not have her seatbelt fastened, while Martinez “was securely fastened by his seat belt, which greatly reduced his injuries.”

Assisting at the scene were Indiana State Police, Sparta Township Fire Department, Ligonier Fire Department, Cromwell Police Department, Ligonier Police Department and Noble County Emergency Medical Service.
