ELKHART, Ind. — Indiana State Police are investigating a shooting by an Elkhart police officer that occurred early Sunday morning in Elkhart.
Elkhart police officers were called to a domestic disturbance at 414 W. Jefferson St. at 12:20 a.m. Sunday. A male was shot at the scene by an Elkhart police officer and later died at Elkhart General Hospital.
Elkhart police asked the Indiana State Police to investigate the incident. The officer involved was placed on administrative leave with pay until the investigation is complete.
Neither the victim’s name or the name of the officer involved was released by authorities today.
Elkhart County Coroner John White said an autopsy was scheduled on the shooting victim today.

Do you think free, open recycling sites are necessary in Elkhart County/Goshen?
Elkhart County is shutting down its last recycling site by the end of March because of public misuse. During the Jan. 23 Goshen City Council meeting, Mayor Jeremy Stutsman mentioned the city will be opening a recycling site before the last county site shuts down. This city site will be monitored by cameras and fines issued for misuse. There will also be public education on what to leave at the site.
