Registration begins for yoga in the park

Registration is open for an outdoor “Yoga in the Parks” class that will take place from 7–8 p.m. June 19 at DeFries Gardens in River Preserve County Park.

“Yoga in the Parks” is a partnership program between the Elkhart County Parks and Peace Love Yoga Michiana that encourages a healthy and active lifestyle through a series of guided classes in a relaxing park environment, according to a news release from the parks department.

Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather, bring water and their own mats (a limited number of mats will be available for use). Cost is $10 per person, and the class is open to all experience levels ages 14 and up. To sign up for the class, register online by June 18 at

Nature hike is for dogs and owners

The Elkhart County Parks staff will offer a free “Tails to Trails” group hike for participants and their canine companions June 20 at Boot Lake Nature Preserve.

Beginning at 6 p.m., dog walkers and their animals can join a naturalist-led hike through Boot Lake Nature Preserve. The hike route will have signs placed along the path, so participants can choose to walk at their own pace with their dogs or join the group for a guided tour of the preserve. Water and doggy bags will be available for pets.

Participants bringing dogs should make sure they are current on all vaccinations and must keep their pets on a leash (6 feet and under).

Boot Lake Nature Preserve is located one mile northwest of Elkhart, off of C.R. 3.


Genealogists to gather for meeting

The Elkhart County Genealogical Society will hold its next meeting at 7 p.m. June 20 at the First Presbyterian Church, 200 E. Beardsley St. Those attending should use the east entrance to the Church. Refreshments will be served.

The program for the evening will be a webinar, “New Clues from Old Headstones.” The webinar will cover the symbols often found on old gravestones and what their meanings are.


5K run/walk set for July

Get Fit Get Healthy, a worksite wellness program, will sponsor its fifth annual 5K run/walk at 8:30 a.m. July 13 at Ox Bow County Park.

To register, go to Online registration is $10 for adults. Children 12 and under can participate free without a race shirt. Registration ends at 5 p.m. July 12. Those who register by June 30 will receive a T-shirt. Organizers said the event gives community members of all ages a way to get moving and improve their overall health.
