ELKHART — Local celebrity chefs turned out for Running with Spoons Sept. 6 at the Lerner Theatre to benefit Bashor Children’s Home.
Four hundred-fifty people tasted bite-sized samples of different foods prepared by local chefs, including Marty Blenner, Ted Burton, Bashor Children’s Home; David Smith, Alpha Systems; and Nate Nickell, Mel Mattix, Crossroads RV; Kosta Lambrou, Callahans; Gregg Fore, Sherm Goldenberg, RV Business; Ryan Casey, Lippert Components; Ron Mullet, Forest River; Marc Anderson and John Kinsey, Foremost Fabricators; Jon, Meghan, and Abigail Wenger, Genesis Products; Meg Ryan, substitute teacher; Troy Nusbaum, Airxcel; Amy Matherly and Susie Broderick, grandmothers; Cody Schade, Forest River; Gina Schade, 90/10 Life Cookbook; Jason and Julia Obendorf, ObeCo; Sarah Raymond, Patrick Industries Inc.; Lisa Chapman, Sharpline; Todd Meier and Andy Roeder, Bennington/Polaris; Jeff Showalter, Joe Caffee, First State Bank; and Shawn and Alexis Klose, Images Jewelers.
The Golden Spoon Award was given to Marty Blenner and Ted Burton from Bashor Children’s Home for raising the most “dough.”
The People’s Choice Award for best food offering went to Casey and Mullet for their shrimp and cheesy grits appetizer, and The Best Dress Table Award went to Anderson and Kinsey of foremost Fabricators.
Bashor officials announced that more than $440,000.00 was raised that evening as well as heightened awareness in the community about Bashor’s fight against human trafficking and other agency programs.
The fundraising team of Marcia Eppers, Karla Morton, Staci Anagnos, Matt Hazelbaker, Jeff Showalter, Mary Wain, Stacey Rodino and Kerie Sekal are extremely humbled for the support from the Elkhart community.
