CHESTERTON, Ind. (AP) — Traffic on Interstate 80-94 in northwest Indiana was blocked for several hours by a home in the road.
State Department of Transportation spokesman Matt Deitchley tells the Post-Tribune (http://bit.ly/1rLXI4B ) that a modular home toppled off a semitrailer that was hauling it Tuesday, blocking two lanes of the highway near Chesterton. The doublewide home also blocked two lanes of the northbound ramp onto the interstate from Indiana 49.
Police say the 16-by-76 foot home wasn't fastened securely.
Deitchley says traffic used the single open lane to pass around the blockage, and all lanes of traffic had reopened by late afternoon.
The home being moved from Topeka, Ind., to Sioux City, Iowa sustained substantial damage.
The driver wasn't injured and was cited for inadequate securement and inoperative trailer brakes.
