Car kills man alerting traffic to Northern Indiana fatality

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say a car fled the scene after fatally striking a man waving traffic away from the body of another man struck and killed by another vehicle.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office said Tuesday investigators are looking for the car that struck 49-year-old David Fordyce of South Bend late Monday. Fordyce at the time was directing traffic away from the body of 43-year-old Michael Marks of South Bend as it lay along Indiana 933 just north of South Bend.

Prosecutors say Marks was walking along the highway when a truck struck him. The truck's driver stopped at the scene.

Moments later, a Honda Accord fatally struck Fordyce as he tried to wave away traffic. Investigators identified the make and model of the car from parts left at the scene.
