Purdue-based company aids earthquake research

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Researchers at Purdue University are working on a system that would allow scientists to share experimental data on earthquakes around the world.

Purdue says in a news release that several earthquake engineers across the nation have been participating in the research sponsored by the National Science Foundation.

Researchers hope to improve structural seismic design and reduce damage from earthquakes and tsunamis. But researchers in other schools and countries can't always share data.

A team at Purdue's Discovery Park hopes to provide a system of standards called Celestina Data so earthquake researchers can more easily share information. The Celestina Data system would be a central hub for research information.
