GOSHEN — Joseph E. Borkholder, 78, of Goshen, died Saturday morning at IU Health Goshen Hospital, where he was a patient.
He was born Dec. 8, 1933, in Nappanee to the late Eli and Catherine (Coblenz) Borkholder.
On May 2, 1957, Joseph married Lizzie Ann Hostetler in Middlebury. She died Jan. 17, 1997. He then married Betty Garvey on June 29, 2002.
Surviving are two daughters, Bertha (Al) Reinoehl, Union, Mich., and Joanna (Brian) Mast, Goshen; two sons, Vernon (Sherri) Borkholder, Goshen, and Richard (Nancy) Borkholder, New Paris; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ada Borkholder, Nappanee, and Amanda (Mervin) Lapp, Quaker City, Ohio; two brothers, Raymond (Wilma) Borkholder, Nappanee, and John (Marilyn) Borkholder, Middlefield, Ohio.
Joseph was preceded in death by four sisters, Anna Ropp, Sarah Borkholder, Emma Miller and Clara Hochstedler; and three brothers, Menno, Daniel and Jacob Borkholder.
Joseph was a cabinet maker and general handyman. He was a member at Bible Baptist Church in Wakarusa and a sports enthusiast who liked watching sporting events on TV. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service, all at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. The Rev. David Harper of Bible Baptist Church will officiate.
Burial will follow at Yellow Creek Cemetery, Goshen.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to American Heart Association.
