Carrollee Allen, 83, formerly of Alexandria and Marathon, Fla., passed away Sunday at IU Health Goshen Hospital.
She was born Oct. 22, 1930 in Anderson, to Raymond and Hazel Starr.
On March 12, 1950, she married Rolland H. (Bud) Allen Jr.
She attended Purdue University and Ball State University. Carrollee taught elementary school in Elwood. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Alexandria and later at St. Andrews Methodist Church in Syracuse. Most recently she taught Sunday school and was the leader of the Women’s Bible Study. Her love of teaching led her to spend several years working with the students in Wawasee’s Alternative Education Program. She was an avid reader and played bridge several times a week.
She is survived by her son, Timothy (Janet) Allen of Alexandria and New Port Richey, Fla.; daughters, Sharon (Timothy) Sigler and Jennifer (Kenneth) Miller, both of Syracuse; grandchildren, Brandon Allen, Eaton, Ohio, Alicia Allen, Los Angeles, Calif., Jason Sigler, Syracuse, Kristen Firestone, Leesburg, Chasity Walker, West Burlington, Iowa, and Amber Hollingsworth, Syracuse; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Starr, Fishers; and sister-in-law, Norma Reed, Alexandria.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, David Starr; and a son, Gary Allen.
Friends are invited to call from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service Wednesday at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria. The Rev. Beedle will officiate.
Interment will follow in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.
A celebration of life service will take place at St. Andrews Methodist Church in Syracuse Saturday at 2 p.m.
