Dale E. Shively, 78, died Monday at his residence.
He was born July 3, 1934 in Tippecanoe, to Russell and Geneva (Baer) Shively. He attended Nappanee Schools and graduated from Etna Green High School in 1952.
Dale owned Shively Insurance and worked as an agent in Nappanee and Goshen. He drove a school bus for Wa-Nee Community Schools for many years and had also worked for Nappanee EMS for many years. He was a member of Nappanee Church of the Brethren and the Third of July Club in Goshen. He enjoyed ice fishing and following his grandchildren’s sporting events.
He married Doris Helser on Nov. 26, 1955, in Warsaw. She survives along with daughters Lisa (Paul) Burris of Wabash, Jenni (Mark) Heeter and Annette (Randy) Spitaels, both of Nappanee; son, Steve (Deb) Shively of Wakarusa; nine grandchildren; a great-grandson; three sisters, Sally (Ernest) Heighway of Richmond, Eleanor (Glen) Deaton of Hope, and Nancy (Larry) McPherron of Plymouth; and close family friends, Alex and Lisa Orn and their two children.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Shively.
Friends may visit the family Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to the funeral service Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Nappanee Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Byrl Shaver will officiate.
Burial will follow at Stony Point Cemetery.
