Bertha Lucile Stickel, 81, died at 3 p.m. Monday at Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa.
She was born July 18, 1931 in Elkhart County, to Paul K. and Dorothy E. (Newcomer) Martin.
She married Arthur Lamar Stickel June 7, 1953, in Wakarusa.
She is survived by her husband; daughter, Debra (Rodney) Schmidt, Wakarusa; son, David Stickel, South Bend; three sisters, Lois Herr, Nappanee, Verda Jump, Goshen, and Thelma (David) Snyder, Wichita, Kan.; brother, Roy (Carol) Martin, Goshen; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Carl Martin and Carlyle Martin; sister, Faye Hackman; and stepmother, Charlotte Martin.
She was a homemaker and a member of Baugo Church of the Brethren, where she served as a deaconess and taught Bible school and Sunday school for many years. She belonged to the Madison Township Homemakers Club and was a counselor at Camp Mack. She volunteered at Madison School in the library and lunch room.
Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, Wakarusa, and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday at Baugo Church of the Brethren. The Rev. David Stackhouse will officiate.
Burial will be in Olive West Cemetery.
