S. LaMar 'Club' Stouder

NAPPANEE - S. LaMar “Club” Stouder, 91, of Nappanee, died at 6 a.m., Sunday at Kindred Healthcare, Bremen after a brief illness.

He was born November 4, 1921 in Nappanee to Joseph D. and Susie (Pippenger) Stouder.

LaMar was a 1940 graduate of Nappanee High School and a lifetime resident of Nappanee.

On December 31, 1941, he married Betty I. Phend in Nappanee. She preceded him in death November 9, 2010.

LaMar was a WWII Veteran of the United States Army, having served in the European Theater.

He had worked at Uline Manufacturing in Nappanee. He worked 18 years at Vitreous Steel and at Pletcher Furniture for 35 years. After retirement, he continued to work at GCI in Nappanee for 16 years.

LaMar was a member of the Nappanee Church of the Brethren, the Nappanee American Legion and had been a lifetime member of the Nappanee VFW.

He had played baseball for International Harvester and had bowled in Nappanee City Leagues for many years. LaMar enjoyed country music and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Bulls and Bears.

Surviving are his daughters, Barbara S. Keiser, Julie A. Stouder, both of Nappanee, Patricia E. (Mel) Witt, Carmel; sons, Tim L. (Connie) Stouder, Nappanee, Roger L. (Vicki) Stouder, South Bend; 8 grandchildren;  and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, John Slabaugh; son-in-law, Ron Keiser; sisters, Mildred Martz, Maxine Slabaugh, Geraldine Fink; and brothers, Manford, Kenneth, Howard, Leonard, Dale, Joe, Everett, and Kenton “Barney” Stouder and also 3 infant brothers.

Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Nappanee Church of the Brethren, followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. The Rev. Byrl Shaver will officiate, assisted by a grandson, Steven Stouder.

Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery with Military Graveside Services by the Nappanee American Legion.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Nappanee American Legion or Nappanee Church of the Brethren.

Arrangements are with Thompson-Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
