Don H. Arnold

GOSHEN — Don H. Arnold, 88, of Goshen, formerly of Milford, passed away at 5:45 a.m. on Saturday, at his home.

He was born on June 17, 1924 in Decatur, IN to Homer W. & Lulu (Byerly) Arnold.

He graduated in 1942 from Kirkland Township High School in Decatur. He attended Purdue University in West Lafayette and then graduated in 1948 from Manchester College in North Manchester. He received his Master’s Degree from Ball State in Muncie and was a World War II Army Veteran.

He was married in 1947 to Elizabeth Price who passed away on Jan. 6, 1960, then July 27, 1960 he married Martha Gregor who passed away on June 20, 1981, then January 1, 1983 he married Nancy L. (Sutton) Walker who survives.

He moved to the Milford area in 1963 from North Manchester and lived there until 2012 when he moved to Goshen.

He worked in the education field for a total of 37 years teaching and coaching at Kirkland High School, Orland High School, Adams Central High School, Laketon High School, and finally retired in 1985 from Wawasee Community School Corporation after 22 years of service. He was the Business Manager for Wawasee from 1963 to 1967 and the Corporation Superintendent from 1967 to 1985. After retirement from education he worked for Hall & Marose Insurance in Milford for 5 years.

He was a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Syracuse, Kiwanis Club in Milford where he received the George F. Hixson Fellow Award in 2000 from the Kiwanis International, Masonic Lodge in Milford & American Legion in Milford. He was a charter member of the Lakeland Kiwanis in North Webster, formerly served for 21 years on the REMC Board of Directors, served on the board for Milford Area Development, and the Waubee Lake Association.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Arnold, Goshen; a daughter, Vickie (Mike) Jones, Aiken, S.C.; two sons, Dave (Irma) Arnold, Flagstaff, Ariz., and Scott (Jerri) Arnold, Bismarck, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Carol (Matt) Tuggle, Attica, and Cheryl (Kevin) Walker, Milford; a stepson, Doug (Jennifer) Walker, Middletown;

19 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; two brothers, Bill (Eloise) Arnold, Auburn, and Homer (Edith) Arnold, Berne; two brother in laws, William (Sara) Gregor of Saginaw, Mich. and Richard (Sharon) Gregor, Ligonier; several nieces and nephews including Rita Price (Jack) Simpson, Mentone.

He was preceded by his parents, two wives, infant sister, and two brothers, Stanley and Eugene Arnold.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Dunning officiating.

Burial will follow in the Milford Cemetery.
