McMinnville, Ore. —  Leroy Henry Snyder passed away Oct. 11. He was 95 years old.

Leroy, son of Clinton and Lottie Mae Snyder, was born in Albion, Ind., May 19, 1917.

He joined the United States Navy after high school and was honorably discharged in 1941. Leroy re-enlisted in the military during World War II as a merchant marine. Among his vivid memories of that period were outrunning German U-boats as his unarmed vessel approached the Panama Canal.

He was active in the local Masonic Lodge, becoming a Third Degree Mason. After retirement, Leroy moved to Florida and later to Oregon, pursuing his lifelong passions of hunting and fishing. This included a hunting trip to Zimbabwe, Africa, that Leroy made at the age of 84, bringing home numerous trophies.
