NAPPANEE — Sarah S. Martin, 97, 68726 C.R. 13, died at her home on Monday from a long illness. She was a lifetime area resident and had lived at her home for 21 years. She was born Nov. 29, 1914 in Elkhart County, to Henry E. and Elizabeth (Shrock) Martin. She was a member of Yellow Creek Wisler Mennonite Church.

She married Herman Martin Sept. 5, 1936 in Elkhart County. He preceded her in death in 1971.

Sarah is survived by sons, Mahlon (Hannah Mary) Martin of Syracuse,  and Ora (Linda) Martin of Etna Green; daughters, Mary Martin of Nappanee, Lena (Loyal) Martin of Goshen, Inez (Vernon) Kurtz, Xenia, Ill., and Sharon (Leland) Shaum of Goshen; 31 grandchildren; 93 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Maryetta Martin of Nappanee and Wilma Zimmerman of Wakarusa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Henry Martin, who died in 2011; and daughter, Anna Miller, who died in 2009; four great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and brothers, John, Enos and Harvey Martin.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Ramer Mennonite Youth Center, 24647 C.R. 44, Nappanee.

Funeral services will take place Friday at 10 a.m. at Yellow Creek Wisler Mennonite Church, Goshen. The home ministers of the church will lead the service.

Burial will follow at Yellow Creek Wisler Mennonite Church Cemetery.
