GOSHEN —Dorothy J. (Keller) Unger, 85, died Wednesday at IU Health Goshen Hospital after a short illness.
She was born Aug. 9, 1928 in Eureka, Ill., to Emil and Anna (Roth) Keller.
She married George S. Unger Sept. 9, 1956 in Metamora, Ill. He preceded her in death in 2010.
She is survived by a son, Ben (Debra) Unger, Center Valley, Pa.; two sisters, Carol Jones, Goshen, and Joanne Rivera, Archbold, Ohio; and special friend, Theron Schlabach, Goshen.
Dorothy received a secretarial certificate from Goshen College in 1948 and worked as a secretary for the registrar and director of admissions at Goshen College until 1955, and subsequently as secretary at churches in Illinois and Indiana.
She and her husband served at Prairie View Hospital (MCC Health Services), Newton, Kan., from 1956 to 1959. They lived in Morton, Ill., from 1965 to 1989. In 1989, they retired and moved to Goshen where Dorothy was active in the community, volunteering at Oaklawn Hospital, The Window, Goshen College, Indiana-Michigan Conference and many other church activities. She was a member of College Mennonite Church.
Dorothy was kind and caring, loved to be with people and touched the lives of many in very special ways.
Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday in the Koinonia Room at College Mennonite Church, where a 3 p.m. celebration of life service will take place Sunday. The Rev. Ron Kennel will officiate.
Burial will be private at Pleasant View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Mennonite Central Committee, P.O. Box 500, Akron, PA 17501, in memory of Dorothy .
