Kathryn M. Prough

Aug. 21, 1916-May 18, 2013

GOSHEN — Kathryn M. Prough, 96, passed away Saturday morning at Greencroft Gables Healthcare.

She was born Aug. 21, 1916, in Midland, Mich., to Menno D. and Laura (Yoder) Miller.

On Aug. 25, 1956, she married Clifford C. Prough in Three Rivers, Mich. He died Oct. 29, 2010.

She is survived by a sister, Fran “Fannie” Lengacher, Sarasota, Fla.; a half-brother, Floyd (Dorothy) Helmuth, Tyler, Texas; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband; four sisters, Wilma Rogers, Sarah Stark, Laura Martin and Clara Helmuth; and four brothers, Sam, Clarence, William and Alvin Miller.

Mrs. Prough was a lifetime area resident and member of First Baptist Church, Goshen, and worked for many years at Fiedeke Dry Cleaners. She enjoyed reading, especially the works of Beverly Lewis, doing crossword puzzles and knitting dishcloths for family and friends.

Kathryn’s family will remember her as a fierce competitor at many board and card games, particularly canasta. She was very active in her younger years with women’s bowling leagues and thoroughly enjoyed a good round of golf. A favorite delight was driving with her husband to northern Michigan to hunt for morel mushrooms. She was also a devoted dog lover, doting on a number of favorite pets through the years.

Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, where a 10 a.m. funeral service will be held Wednesday. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.

There has been discussion at West Goshen Elementary School to require mandatory student uniforms in the future. How do you feel about the prospect of mandatory student uniforms in a public school environment?

I think it’s an excellent idea that is way overdue
I think it’s a bad idea and would be restrictive for students and parents.
