Vernon Schertz

May 22, 1925-June 24, 2013

ATLANTA, Ga. — Vernon Schertz, 88, 2010 Albany Drive, died June 24. He had formerly resided in Goshen, Ind.

He married Betty Lewis in October 1942; she died in May 2004.

He married Eleanor Milam in December 2009. She survives in Atlanta.  

Also surviving are his five children, Vera (Haile) Agonafar, Atlanta, Irene Schertz (Jamelle Dalton), Apple Valley, Calif., Stephen (Therese) Schertz, Hampton, Susan Moreno, South Bend, Ind., and V. Eric (Linda) Schertz, Bartlett, Ill.

A memorial service took place June 29 at Berea Mennonite Church in Atlanta.

A memorial bench has been placed in his honor in Violett Cemetery, Goshen, Ind.

Goshen City Council member Dixie Robinson is asking residents to make an effort to clean up their yards this spring. The city’s Dial-A-Truck program is available to haul trash away. Do you think there are more unsightly properties in Goshen this year than five years ago?
