GOSHEN — Dorothy M. Schmucker, 86, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening at IU Health Goshen Hospital.
She was born Dec. 8, 1927 in Elkhart County, to William and Lizzie Ann (Mast) Sumpter.
In February 1946, she married Willard N. Schmucker in Middlebury. He died in 1975.
She is survived by three children, Sharon Babin, Goshen, Kenneth Schmucker, Sturgis, Mich., and Joyce Schrock, Middlebury; eight grandchildren, Michael (Nancy) Babin, Marc (Elisabeth) Babin, Kent (Courtney) Schmucker, Tammy Scarberry, Heather (John) Jones, Amanda (Robert) Kindel, Bryan (Jaimee) Schmucker and Kenneth Kern; 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Eldon (Elizabeth) Sumpter, LaGrange.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two siblings, Homer Huffman and AnnaBelle Yoder.
A member of East Goshen Mennonite Church for 60 years, Mrs. Schmucker was known for her quilts. She volunteered at Greencroft.
Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service Saturday at East Goshen Mennonite Church. The Revs. Steve Slagel and Dorothy’s nephew, Hubert Schmucker, will officiate.
Burial will follow at Elkhart Prairie Cemetery, Goshen.
