NEW PARIS — Charles Ira Elliott, 85, died Tuesday at 9:35 a.m. at his residence.

He was born April 4, 1928, in Middlebury, to Harvey and Mary Elizabeth (Stiver) Elliott.

He married Helen J. Pippenger. She died Feb. 16, 2007.

He is survived by his daughters, Connie Binion (Myron Wilder) New Paris, and Donna (Dale) Klase, New Paris; brother, Melvin Elliott, Goshen; two grandchildren, Jennifer Klase, New Paris, and Justin (Tiffany) Klase, Goshen; three great-grandchildren, Ethan Klase and Lainie and Hallie Klase; two stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; brothers, infant Orville, Alvin and Willis Elliott; sisters, Ella Mae Hoover and Gladys Quake; and a half-sister, Marie Romig.

He retired in 1990 from Marriott and was a member of Maple Grove Church of the Brethren. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

There will be a time of visitation Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the 1 p.m. funeral service Tuesday at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen.

Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.

There has been discussion at West Goshen Elementary School to require mandatory student uniforms in the future. How do you feel about the prospect of mandatory student uniforms in a public school environment?

I think it’s an excellent idea that is way overdue
I think it’s a bad idea and would be restrictive for students and parents.
