Nikolas Stscherban Jr.

Dec. 12, 1945-May 18, 2013

MISHAWAKA — Nikolas “Nick” Stscherban Jr., 67, passed away unexpectedly early Saturday morning while at St. Anthony Hospital in Michigan City.

Nick was born Dec. 12, 1945, in Graz, Austria, to Nikolas and Helen Stscherban Sr. He retired in 2011 from TCU where he was a Commercial Insurance Sales Specialist.

Nick was an avid golfer and was a golf instructor at the Plymouth Rock Golf Course. He was a member of the Club 15 Athletic Association in Mishawaka and the Holy Trinity Ukranian Orthodox Church in Goshen.

On Aug. 18, 1992, in Shepherdsville, Ky., he married Kathryn Grace Dean. She survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his mother, Helen Stscherban, Mishawaka; a daughter, Stephanie Stscherban, Indianapolis; three stepchildren, Tom (Donna) Dean, Maryville, Mo., Jeff Dean, Elkhart, and Kimberly (Wendell) Burnett, Fort Wayne. He was the stepgrandfather of eight and a stepgreat-grandfather of two. He is also survived by his siblings, Ella (Joe) Amaral, South Bend, Paul (Kathy) Stscherban, Mishawaka, and Jean (Dr. Agop) Tepeli, Frankfort, Ill.; along with nieces and nephews, Joe Amaral Jr., Alex Stscherban, John Stscherban, Nikolas Tepeli, Michael Tepeli and Natalie Tepeli.

He was preceded in death by his father, Nikolas Stscherban Sr.

Friends may visit with the family Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka. A service celebrating Nick’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral chapel where friends will be able to visit one hour prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made in Nick’s name to the Pet Refuge, 2300 W. 6th St., Mishawaka, Indiana 46544.

There has been discussion at West Goshen Elementary School to require mandatory student uniforms in the future. How do you feel about the prospect of mandatory student uniforms in a public school environment?

I think it’s an excellent idea that is way overdue
I think it’s a bad idea and would be restrictive for students and parents.
