PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Wanda Sowards, 72, went to Heaven to be with the Lord on Monday.
She was born Feb. 19, 1941 in McDermott, a daughter of the late Ernie and Zelma Marcum Beckett.
Wanda worked at Fountain View Nursing Home in Elkhart, Ind., Petersons Nursing Home in Goshen, Ind. and Goshen General Hospital for 17 years. She retired as manager of the Portsmouth Shell Mart with 10 years of service, and was a 1959 Northwest High School graduate.
Wanda was a member of the Community Bible Church in Lucasville. She loved the church and her church family very much.
She was also preceded in death by the father of her children, Roy Sowards, who died Jan. 29, 2001; a sister, Marilyn Marcum Fields; and two brothers, Gary and Dennis Beckett.
She is survived by a son, Darren Sowards of Middlebury, Ind.; three daughters, Penny (Brian) Phillips of West Portsmouth, Faye (Jerry) Ganger of Elkhart, Ind., and Genoa (Larry) Sigerfoos of Howe, Ind.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Virginia (Keith) Ballangee of McDermott, Carolyn Ramey of New Mexico, and Helen Mummert of Oklahoma; and a special sister-in-law, Rilda “Sis” Osborne of Lucasville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville with Joe Nelson and J.D. Stevens officiating.
Burial will follow in Conley Cemetery on Dry Run Road, West Portsmouth.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday and one hour before the funeral service Sunday at the funeral home.
