Stanley G. Vantine

Dec. 8, 1927-June 14, 2013

ELKHART — Stanley Guy Vantine, 85, died at 5:02 a.m. Friday at Greenleaf Living Center.

Stanley was born Dec. 8, 1927, in Elkhart, to Malard and Josephine (Miller) Vantine.

On July 2, 1949, he married Betty Jane Malone. Betty passed away Aug. 4, 2002.

Surviving are a son, Terry (Marie) Vantine of Elkhart; a daughter, Cathy (Todd T.) Hahn of Nappanee; four grandchildren, Aaron (Rita) Tiffany, Christopher (Angela) Tiffany, Matthew (Alicia) Hahn and Nathaniel Hahn; eight great-grandchildren; his best friend and companion, Shirley Supancik; and a sister, Peggy (Robert) Hutchison of Okeechobee, Fla. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Henderson; and brothers, Dean and Paul Vantine.

Stanley worked at the Michiana Aluminum Foundry for many years before driving truck for Pete Yoder Excavating until retirement. Stanley proudly served in the United States Army and was a member of the Millersburg VFW. He loved taking care of his home and family. Stanley enjoyed his garden, fishing and trips to the Mackinac Bridge and Island over the years.

Family services will be held Monday at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home, Elkhart. Military graveside services will follow at Yellow Creek Cemetery. Pastor Wayne Speicher will officiate.

There has been discussion at West Goshen Elementary School to require mandatory student uniforms in the future. How do you feel about the prospect of mandatory student uniforms in a public school environment?

I think it’s an excellent idea that is way overdue
I think it’s a bad idea and would be restrictive for students and parents.
