DENVER, Colo. — Audrey Marie (Strycker) Stutsman, 91, a former Goshen, Ind. resident, passed away peacefully Wednesday after a lengthy illness. She was born in Goshen to Peter and Ina Strycker, who lived in Goshen all their lives. They preceded her in death.
Audrey had nine sisters and brothers, some of whom were lost at very youthful ages prior to Audrey’s birth. Six of them reached adulthood and three survive: Joan Hunsberger, G. Brad Strycker, and E. Max Strycker, all of Goshen.
On Oct. 1, 1939, Audrey married Stanley W. Stutsman in Goshen. The service was performed by Stan’s grandfather, the Rev. Joseph S. Stutsman. They were married 66 years when Stan passed away Dec. 28, 2005. After Stan’s passing, Audrey lived the rest of her life close to her daughter in Denver.
Audrey’s two children were both born in Goshen. Gary, who resides in Grand Rapids, Mich., was born Nov. 20, 1943. Beverly was born Feb. 21, 1950.
Throughout her adult years living with her family in Michigan, Audrey was active in community affairs from PTA, the public library, holding bake sales for support of the USO and filling in at the County Medical Care facility. A number of years later, Audrey and her husband enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, generally the west. Audrey and Stan later spent their retirement years in New Mexico.
Audrey is survived by her son, Gary Stutsman; daughter, Beverly VanDam; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
