SYRACUSE — Richard Vanderveer, 85, died Monday at IU Health Goshen Hospital.
He was born May 30, 1928, in Goshen, to Donald and Hazel (Searfoss), Vanderveer.
He was a lifelong area resident who grew up in the Milford area. He graduated from Purdue University and served in the United States Army.
After military service, he began his career with Bell Aircraft Corporation in New York and retired from Northern Indiana Public Service Company in 1985.
On Oct. 7, 1951, he married Mavis Vance, who survives. Also surviving are three nieces, Ann (Carlos) Bennett, Germantown, Ohio, Janet (Larry) Lantz, Syracuse, and Amy (Scott) Williams, Jackson, Wyo., and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Elizabeth Shaw and Margaret Purdum.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service honoring Rick’s life Friday at Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse. The Rev. Christopher Lantz will officiate.
Burial in Milford Cemetery will take place at a later date.
