Velma I. Berger, 90, Miller’s Merry Manor, formerly of Nappanee, died after an extended illness at 7:54 p.m. Sunday at Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw.
She was born June 9, 1922 in Marshall County, to Foster and Ilda (Greib) Dumph. Velma lived her lifetime in the Nappanee, Bremen and Warsaw area.
She married Delmarr E. Berger Dec. 20, 1941, in Nappanee. He preceded her in death June 23, 1994.
Mrs. Berger was a 1940 graduate of Nappanee High School. She was a homemaker and helped her husband with custodial work at the Nappanee United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the church and had sang in the choir. She also enjoyed reading.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol (Ronald) Klotz, Milford, Marlene Hirt, Monticello, and Susan (Doug) Emerson, Bellvista, Ark.; a son, Loren Berger, South Bend; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a half sister, Glenda Sheets, Nappanee.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, LaMar Berger; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Berger; granddaughter, Sheila Kay Ellis; and sisters, Dorothy Hollar and Mary Holdeman.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to the funeral service, which will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Nappanee United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jim Davidson will officiate.
Burial will be in Bremen Cemetery.
