Evelyn Marie Myers

July 18, 1928-June 17, 2013

SOUTH WHITLEY —  Evelyn Marie Myers, 84, went home to be with the Lord at 5:15 p.m. Monday. She had been a resident of Greencroft Goshen Health Care since March 2012. Prior to that, she lived at 603 Calhoun St. in South Whitley.

Evelyn was born July 18, 1928 in Wabash County, to Noah and Iva Bolinger. She attended school at South Whitley High School, where she played the clarinet in the band and graduated in 1946.

On Aug. 4, 1946, she married Frederick “Fritz” Myers in South Whitley. They celebrated their 66th anniversary in 2012.

Evelyn attended the Collamer Christian Church in South Whitley. For many years, she and Fritz lived on a dairy farm south of town, where she enjoyed gardening. Evelyn worked at Heckman Bindery in North Manchester for 42 years, refurbishing Bibles along with notable and historical books from the Library of Congress.

Evelyn loved music, especially Southern Gospel. She loved singing and performing with the Whitley Choralaires and also sang for five years with a barbershop quartet, “The Feminotes,” that performed in schools, churches, in Indianapolis and on television. She and Fritz also enjoyed attending all-night Gospel sings.

She loved fishing, crocheting and needlework. Evelyn cherished spending time with her family, including traveling with her grandchildren when they were young.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley (George) Dyer and Patty (Garry) Thompson both of Elkhart; grandchildren, Shane (Kari) Dyer of Elkhart, Jenny (Doug) McGee of Beijing, China, Ryan Thompson of Denver, Colo., and Corrine Thompson of Elkhart (Simeon Hoover); great-grandchildren, Breya Wilken and Karisa Dyer, both of Elkhart, Eli, Enoch and Eva McGee, all of Beijing, China.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Frederick “Fritz,” and a brother, Floyd Bolinger.

A funeral service will take place at 4 p.m. Thursday at Smith and Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley, with the Rev. David Wagner officiating. There will be a time of visitation Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

Burial will be in the South Whitley Cemetery.
