CHICAGO, Ill. — Robert C. Riggs, 35, died Thursday at his residence.

Robert was born April 20, 1978, in Elkhart, to Monte D. and Lynne A. (Boots) Riggs.

Surviving are his parents of Elkhart; a sister, Dawn (Brandon) Ratkovich of Chicago; and a large extended family.

Robert was preceded in death by his grandparents, Loren and Ruth (Noel) Riggs; his grandmother, Anna Boots; as well as many great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins.

Robert was Manager of Investor Relations & Capital Markets working at Chicago-based Ventas Inc. Robert was the valedictorian of his 1996 Concord High School graduating class. He loved playing golf and was an avid sports fan of his alma mater, Vanderbilt University, where he received his undergraduate degree, and USC, where he received his MBA.

Robert traveled the world, with trips that took him to the Great Wall of China, London, Greece, India and much of Europe. He loved being in the company of his family and friends, and positively impacted all those who surrounded him. He was truly loved.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and for one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home, Elkhart. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Due to a severe allergy to flowers by family members, please do not send flowers but give a donation in memory of Robert to either the United Cancer Services of Elkhart County, 23971 U.S. Highway 33, Elkhart, Indiana 46517, or the Elkhart County Humane Society, 54687 C.R. 19, Bristol, IN 46507.

There has been discussion at West Goshen Elementary School to require mandatory student uniforms in the future. How do you feel about the prospect of mandatory student uniforms in a public school environment?

I think it’s an excellent idea that is way overdue
I think it’s a bad idea and would be restrictive for students and parents.
