Gene E. Stout, 79, Middlebury, died at 7:30 p.m., on Friday, at Elkhart Hospice House.
He was born on Sept. 25, 1933, to Carroll and Lucille (Forsythe) Stout. On Nov. 20, 1955 he married Dorothy Hocking. She died May 18, 2006.
Surviving are five daughters, Dianne (Lynn) Kliewer of Bristol, Deneen Stout of Fishers, Dolores (Dick) Schoen of Middlebury, Darla (Ken) Bechlem of Topeka, Dee (Jimmy) Koontz of Middlebury; five sons, Donald Stout of Middlebury, David (Laura) Stout of Middlebury, Dale Stout of Goshen, Duane (Jennifer) Stout of Kenosha, Wis., Dean (Rhonda) Stout of Elkhart; and a sister, Donna Stout of Goshen.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter, Debra Stout, a son, Dennis Stout and his parents.
Gene had been with Coachmen Industries for more than 30 years where he had served as Executive Vice President. He retired in 2001. He was involved with R.V.I.A. for more than 30 years, holding several offices, and he was a member of First United Methodist Church, Middlebury where he served on several committees. He was a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main St., Middlebury.
There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service on Tuesday, at First United Methodist Church, Middlebury. Services will be conducted by The Rev. Steve Ellis.
