Margaret ‘Irene” Shriner Hartman

GOSHEN — Margaret “Irene” Shriner Hartman, 99, Greencroft Drive, died at Greencroft Goshen Health Care Monday at 1:15 a.m. She moved with her husband to Greencroft in June 1989.

She was born Feb. 11, 1914 in Kent County, Mich., to Frank and Katie (Miller) Shriner.

She married the Rev. Earl W. Hartman Oct. 1, 1936. He died Sept. 9, 1995.

She is survived by her sons, Donald E. (Lynda) Hartman, Manistique, Mich., and Dennis (Linda) Hartman, Kalamazoo, Mich.; three granddaughters; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lester (Charlotte) Shriner, Goshen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters; and daughter-in-law, Ruth Hartman.

She was a homemaker and a member of Olive Mennonite Church. She did a large amount of volunteer work and was her husband’s helper while he pastored a church in Michigan and three churches in Indiana. She also loved working in the garden, reading and quilting.

Friends may call Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Olive Mennonite Church, 61081 C.R. 3, Elkhart, where a funeral service will take place at 3 p.m. Thursday. The Revs. Kevin and Sharon Yoder of the church will officiate.

Burial will be in Olive West Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Olive Mennonite Church or World Missionary Press.
