MILFORD — James “Jimmy” L. Hampton, 66, died Tuesday at Elkhart Hospice House where he had been admitted earlier in the day. He had been seriously ill since January.
He was born July 27, 1947 in Detroit, Mich., to Millard and Letha (Ratliff) Hampton.
He married Betty J. McBride in March 1967.
She survives along with three sons, David M. (Lisa) Hampton, Goshen, J. Jared Hampton, Kimmel, and Jeff Harvey, Goshen; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Deborah Hampton, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Taylor Drew Ray, who died April 9, 2012.
A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Hampton served as a medic in Germany. He was an avid student of World War II history and enjoyed books and documentaries about the war.
Friends may call today from 4 to 7 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, where a 10 a.m. memorial service will take place Friday. Tom Speicher of Wawasee Community Bible Church will officiate.
In accordance with Jimmy’s wishes his body will be cremated.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Alzheimer’s Association.
