GOSHEN — Elizabeth Beck, 88, died at 5:42 p.m. Wednesday at her daughter’s residence surrounded by her family.

She was born Nov. 25, 1924 in Reno County, Kan., to David and Mattie (Yoder) Schrock. Elizabeth was a lifetime area resident.

She married Orval J. Beck June 29, 1946, in Wakarusa. He preceded her in death April 15, 2007.

Mrs. Beck was a homemaker and enjoyed being a mother. She was a member of Holdeman Mennonite Church her entire life. She was very active in the church, taking part in sewing, teaching Sunday school and Bible school. She was a faithful prayer warrior.

She is survived by her sons, Gregory (Karen) Beck of Elkhart, Duane (Kathy) Beck and Max (Melanie) Beck, both of Goshen; daughters, Kathleen (Terry) Martin of Knoxville, Tenn., and Nedra (Les) Gnagey of Goshen; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; brother, Edward Schrock of Goshen; sisters, Sue Kurtz and Barbara (Lowell) Weaver, both of Goshen, Alma (Gene) Bontreger of LaGrange, and Mary (Ray) Yoder, of Middlebury; her stepmother, Jane Puchala, of Roseland; and half brothers, David (Karen) Schrock of Indianapolis and Bob Schrock of South Bend.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Hannah Gnagey, and three siblings.

Family and friends may call Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Greencroft Meeting House in Goshen and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Wakarusa.

Graveside services for family only will take place at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Olive Cemetery. Celebration of life services will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Holdeman Mennonite Church, Wakarusa. The Revs. Randy Detweiler and B.J. Leichty will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be given to Project Promise or Holdeman Mennonite Church. Arrangements are with Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Wakarusa. Online condolences may be shared at www.tlyfh.com.

There has been discussion at West Goshen Elementary School to require mandatory student uniforms in the future. How do you feel about the prospect of mandatory student uniforms in a public school environment?

I think it’s an excellent idea that is way overdue
I think it’s a bad idea and would be restrictive for students and parents.
