Carolyn Miller

GOSHEN — Carolyn Marie (Burkholder) Miller, 78, died Tuesday at Greencroft Goshen Health Care.

She was born in Orville, Ohio, to Ray and Laura (Moser) Burkholder Dec. 18, 1934. She married B.J. Miller in 1957.

Carolyn was a nurse at Goshen General Hospital and subsequently at the office of Dr. Don Minter until her retirement. Early in her career, working for Dr. Willard Kraybill, she developed and taught the first prenatal classes in Goshen; this program was later adopted by the hospital.

She was an active member of Walnut Hill Mennonite Church, Goshen, serving on numerous committees and as church librarian, song leader and Sunday school teacher. For many years, she attended Bible Study Fellowship and was a discussion leader. She was involved in Goshen Interfaith Hospitality Network, served as a board member of The Window, and was a longtime volunteer at Katie’s Kitchen.

Carolyn was a good friend and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was an active and creative homemaker and an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed music, gardening and nature and artistic endeavors of all kinds.

Carolyn is survived by her spouse and four children: daughters, Tammie (Daryl) Miller of Goshen and Lynette (Dan) Bertsche of Chicago, Ill., and sons, Brent (Roma) Miller of Goshen and Bryan (Gretchen) Miller of Middlebury. Also surviving are grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Miller of Vancouver, Canada, Nicholas Miller and Kelsie (Adam) Friesen-Miller, both of Goshen, Joey Miller of Johnstown, Pa., Mason Edlund of Greenwood, Lisle Bertsche of Minneapolis, Minn., Adrienne Bertsche of Chicago, Ill., and Travis Miller of Middlebury.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Richard Burkholder.

Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., followed by a memorial service Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Both will take place at Walnut Hill Mennonite Church, 909 N. Sixth St., Goshen.

Memorial gifts in Carolyn’s name may be made out to Goshen Interfaith Hospitality Network or Amigo Park.
