James W. Miller

GOSHEN — James William Miller, 94, died Thursday at Greencroft Healthcare.

He was born Jan. 28, 1918, in Howe, to the late John and Stella (Schaffer) Miller. He married Sarah B. Miller Dec. 1, 1995. She survives.

Also surviving are six daughters, Janet (Charles) Marsh, Franklin, Tenn., Linda (Dewayne) Miller, Middlebury, Sandra Boone, Sarasota, Fla., Barbara (Wayne) Troyer, Bremen, Beverly (Joe) Watson, Sarasota, Fla., and Kari (Joe) Dalton, Parrish, Fla.; two sons, James Miller, Zephyrhills, Fla., and David (Edna) Miller, Sandusky, Mich.; a stepdaughter, Cheryl (Dennis) Pierce, Osceola; a stepson, Cletus (Jerlyn) Yoder, Goshen; 35 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth (Kohli) Miller; a son, John “Chuck” Miller; a sister, Mabel Thornton; and a brother, Maynard Miller.

A longtime Goshen (Foraker) resident, Mr. Miller worked in the lab at Goshen Rubber for 27 years.

Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at The Meetinghouse at Greencroft where an 11 a.m. Friday memorial service will be conducted. Greencroft Chaplain Velma Swartz will officiate.

Burial of cremains will be in Union Center Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, is assisting with funeral arrangements.

There has been discussion at West Goshen Elementary School to require mandatory student uniforms in the future. How do you feel about the prospect of mandatory student uniforms in a public school environment?

I think it’s an excellent idea that is way overdue
I think it’s a bad idea and would be restrictive for students and parents.
