Willard Ray Overholser

ELKHART — Willard Ray Overholser, 87, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, at 7:15 a.m. Monday, at Hubbard Hill Estates, Elkhart.   

Formerly of C.R. 30, Goshen and Sebring, Fla., he was born Dec. 14, 1925 in Harrison Township, Elkhart County, to Alonzo and Elizabeth (Tyson) Overholser. He married Leora Elizabeth (Ogle) Overholser Aug. 6, 1949.

He is survived by his wife, Leora; son, Dennis (Cynthia) Overholser, Bristol; daughter, Diana (Richard) Miller, Goshen; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul, Claude, Marion and Lowell Overholser and three sisters, Lois Hooley, Fern Overholser and Mary Alice Drudge.

Willard was a 1943 graduate and salutatorian of Wakarusa High School and graduated from IV Tech as a computer programmer. He served as president of the Harrison Township PTO for more than five years.

He was a member of the Yellow Creek Church where he was a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years and also served as a deacon.  He attended Sebring Church of the Brethren in Sebring, Fla. and enjoyed wintering there.

He was a hobby farmer and avid gardener and was famous with his family for his homegrown popcorn. He also liked watching sports.

Visitation will take place Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen, and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. service Thursday at Yellow Creek Church of the Brethren, 65575 C.R. 11, Goshen. The Rev. Mark Bendes will officiate.

Burial will be in Yellow Creek Cemetery.  

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Heifer Project International or Yellow Creek Church of the Brethren.
