Daniel A. Yoder

MIDDLEBURY —Daniel A. Yoder, 79, died at 5:50 a.m. Monday at Courtyard Health Care Center, Goshen, where he had stayed since September after breaking his hip.

He was born Feb. 11, 1934, in Lumberton, Miss., to Andrew M. and Emma (Schrock) Yoder.

On Jan. 10, 1963, in Ohio, he married Elizabeth Yoder, who survives.

He is also survived by his four daughters, Martha (Elvin) Schrock of Colby, Wis., Susie (Walter) Helmuth of Wakarusa, Edna (Wendell) Zimmerman of Goshen, and Delilah Mears of Middlebury; four sons, Andrew (Martha) Yoder of Bittinger, Md., Moses (Meg) Yoder of Constantine, Mich., Jonathan (Anna) Yoder of Goshen, and Henry (Norma) Yoder of Clarkson, Ky.; 28 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; three sisters, Mary Yoder, Lydia Troyer and Mattie (Samuel) Hostetler, all of Ethridge, Tenn.; five brothers, Andrew (Sarah) Yoder of Memphis, Tenn., Noah Yoder of Tennessee, Joe (Iva) Yoder of Ethridge, Tenn., Eli (Fannie) Yoder of Ephrata, Pa., and Enos (Mary) Yoder of LaGrange.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Moses, Gideon and Jake Yoder; two sisters, Lizzie Yoder and Delila Yoder; and two grandchildren.

Daniel was a member of Fairhaven Mennonite Church and a retired van driver. He loved fishing.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Fairhaven Mennonite Church, 13513 Ind. 4, Goshen, where funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday. Bishop Wilbur Yoder and the Rev. Dale Hochstetler will officiate.

Burial will be in Thomas Cemetery, Goshen.

Memorials may be given to Fairhaven Mennonite Church.

There has been discussion at West Goshen Elementary School to require mandatory student uniforms in the future. How do you feel about the prospect of mandatory student uniforms in a public school environment?

I think it’s an excellent idea that is way overdue
I think it’s a bad idea and would be restrictive for students and parents.
