KIMMELL — William E. Truex, 79, formerly of Elkhart and the Wakarusa-Nappanee area, died Friday at 5:25 a.m. at his residence.
He was born Oct. 18, 1933 in St. Joseph, to Melvin R. and Alice (Housour) Truex.
He married Marilyn J. (Stickel) Truex Oct. 5, 1957. She survives.
Other survivors include his son, Michael A. Truex, Nappanee; daughters, Diane (Dennis) Blotkamp, Kimmell, and Kathy Winright, Wakarusa; four grandchildren, Justin W. Blotkamp, Cody W. Blotkamp, Adam W. Brew and Austin W. Winright; two great-grandchildren, Wyatt A.J. Blotkamp and Lilly E. Stout; sister, Doris Runyon, New Paris; and a brothers, Douglas (Audrey) Truex, Nappanee.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lois Miller.
He worked as a tool and die maker at NIBCO for 17 years and he had been a dairy and grain farmer the past 21 years. He was a member and deacon of Broadway Christian Chapel, Kimmell. He graduated in 1951 from Wakarusa High School and attended a four-year tool and die school.
He served in the U.S. Army and was discharged in 1956. He loved the outdoors, fishing, mushroom hunting, grouse hunting and was an avid sports enthusiast, especially the Cubs, Bulls and Notre Dame. Through the years he enjoyed his dog companions.
Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service Monday at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen.
Burial will be in South Union Cemetery.
