Arlene F. Birky, 78, died Friday at 10:35 p.m. at Millers Merry Manor, Wakarusa.
She was born Dec. 13, 1933, in Elkhart County, to Willis and Effie (Loucks) Hartman. On May 28, 1960, she married Marston Birky. He survives.
Also surviving are a son, Dr. Duane Birky, Fort Smith, Ark.; two daughters, Pamela (Phil) Klotz, Wakarusa, and Patricia Birky, Nappanee; and three grandchildren, Blake Klotz, Megan Klotz and Kassie Rhoades.
She was a homemaker and a member of Holdeman Mennonite Church, Wakarusa.
A 1951 graduate of Wakarusa High School, she served in Mennonite Voluntary Service in Colorado, as a Sunday and Bible school teacher for many years, and provided child care and care for the elderly. She was know for many years for making Halloween cookies for trick-or-treaters. She also loved to travel, especially in the mountains.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, Wakarusa, and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service Wednesday at Holdeman Mennonite Church, Wakarusa.
Pastors Bj Leichty, Randy Detweiler and Vernard Guengerich, all of Holdeman Mennonite Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Olive (West) Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Center for Hospice Care, Elkhart, or Holdeman Mennonite Church, Wakarusa.
