GOSHEN — Jack E. Wait Sr., 83, formerly of Fruitport, Mich., died Friday at 12:46 p.m. at his residence.
He was born Jan. 15, 1931, in Muskegon Heights, Mich., to Harry E. and Ruth Marie (Voss) Wait.
On Feb. 3, 1951, he married Mary Ann (Coleman) Wait.
He is survived by a son, Jack E. (Nancy) Wait Jr., Elkhart; a daughter, Sally Wait, North Muskegon, Mich.; grandchildren, Aaron (Kami) Wait, Katelyn and Zakary, Elkhart, Andrew (Bethany) Wait, Howard, Goshen, and Alex Wait, Elkhart; his siblings, Rex (Nancy) Waite, Tuscan, Ariz., Robert (Kathy) Wait, Hudsonville, Mich., Sue Schaafsma, Comstock Park, Mich., Gary (Sandy) Wait, Huntington, Md.; and brother-in-law, Wayne Coleman, St. Petersburg, Fla.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Colleen Reece, Harry Wait, Max Wait, and Jim Wait.
He served in the Korean War as 1st Lt. Third Armored Calvary Tank Commander. He was the controller at Anderson Bolling/Barler, then purchased Frederick Tool Corp. in Elkhart and later moved the company to the former Hawks Furniture Building in Goshen.
He was a member of the Free Mason of Kane Masonic Lodge and 32nd degree Scottish Rite of South Bend.
A Masonic Service will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by visitation from 10 a.m. to noon at the Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen, where a funeral service is set to begin at noon.
Memorial contributions may be made to Salvation Army or National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
