GOSHEN — Gayle Akers Zamudio, 68, died Wednesday afternoon at home. She had been ill for many years.
She was born Sept. 13, 1945 in Winifrede, W.Va., to Cecil Akers Sr. and Virginia (Cantebury) Higginbotham.
On May 11, 2001, she married Gustavo Zamudio in Goshen.
He survives along with four daughters, Mary Faith (Maurice) Coles, Carol Lynn (Benito) Aguilar, both of Goshen, Sabrina (Richard) Hodge, W.Va., and Tamara (Martin) McRobie, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; a sister, Iris (Elbert) Kemper, Elkhart; and two brothers, Jerry Akers, Elkhart, and Paul (Vicki) Akers, Warsaw.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Betty Mucubbins, and two brothers, Cecil Akers Jr. and Ronald Akers.
Prior to retirement Gayle had worked at Triangle Rubber, Goshen.
Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, where an 11:30 a.m. funeral service will be held on Monday.
Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery.
