GOSHEN — Albert R. “Al” Thompson, age 67, of New Paris, died at 6 a.m. Saturday at IU Health Goshen Hospital where he had been a patient since Tuesday. He had been in ill health for three years.
Albert was born September 4, 1946, in Flint, Mich. to Albert R. and Dorothy (Vann) Thompson.
He lived most of his life in Tampa, Fla. moving to the New Paris-Nappanee area 15 years ago.
On December 18, 1989, he married Mary Bontrager.
She survives with a son, Mark Thompson, Michigan; daughter, Tammie Thompson, Tampa, Fla.; two grandchildren in Texas; a brother, Danny Thompson, Florida; and a sister, Laurie Cook, Mich.
He was preceded in death by a son, Albert E. Thompson III and a sister, Susan Thompson.
Mr. Thompson enjoyed his dog Buster and was an avid motorcycle rider.
There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Albert Thompson Memorial Fund to help with funeral service costs.
