GOSHEN — Phillip S. Preston, 76, died Saturday. He had been in declining health for the past three years.
He was born Oct. 7, 1936, in Sturgis, Mich., to the late Maynard and Clara (Devenbaugh) Preston.
He graduated from Lima High School, Howe, in 1954 and received his pharmacy degree from Butler University in 1959. He was the owner of the Wakarusa Pharmacy from 1963 to 1992 and was then employed by CVS until his retirement. He was very active in AAU basketball and his Wakarusa Pharmacy team was well known in the area.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley (Minelli) Preston; two sons, Marc Preston, Goshen, and Andrew Preston, Palm Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Karen (Bill) Papadopoulos, Bloomington, and Kim (Jeff) Smiejek, Chicago, Ill.; and two grandchildren, Stella and Wilson Smiejek.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Wakarusa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Goshen, followed by burial in Violett Cemetery.
