GOSHEN — Kathryn L. Penrose, 85, passed away at 7:45 p.m. Thursday at the Maples of Waterford Circle.

She was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Goshen, to Alonzo & Nellie (Renner) Hile.

On Feb. 17, 1946, in Goshen, she married Russell D. Penrose. He died Dec. 8, 2005, in Elkhart.

Surviving are three daughters, Tamra Mathews, Bloomington, Rhonda Drummond, Goshen, and Kathy (Merel) Burgess, Elkhart; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Max and Joe Hile; and a sister, Marceil Swihart.

Kathryn was a former member of the Northside Church of the Nazarene and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. She enjoyed reading and loved her cat Bubba.

Visitation will be for two hours prior to the 1 p.m. funeral service Monday at the Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, Elkhart. Pastor Oscar Sheets will preside and entombment will follow in Rice Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Elkhart County Humane Society.
