Blane Randall Growcock

January 31, 1963-October 16, 2013

MISHAWAKA — Blane Randall Growcock, 50, died peacefully and of natural causes Wednesday at Golden Living Center, Mishawaka.

He was born Jan. 31, 1963, to Alvin “Dean” and Hermal Growcock in Kimmell.

An active member of the Logan Center, South Bend community, where he was a resident for many years, Blane enjoyed a wide range of activities such as dancing, bowling and caring for animals. He previously participated in Special Olympics, volunteered with Meals on Wheels, rode horses with Reins of Life, was employed through Logan Industries, and looked forward to the Elkhart County 4-H Fair every year. More than anything, he treasured the time he was able to spend with family and friends. He leaves behind a network of extended family and a large community of friends, coworkers and caregivers.

Blane is survived by his sister, Vivian (Jerry) Needler, New Paris; brothers, Larry (Dina) Growcock, Bardolino, Italy, and Roderick Growcock, Indianapolis; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and brothers, Deo D. (Judy) Growcock and Loran D. (Sandy) Growcock, Ligonier.

A memorial gathering will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Nov. 9 with a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be accepted by Logan Center, South Bend, (www.logancenter.org) on Blane’s behalf, benefiting other individuals with special needs.

Burial at Sparta Cemetery, Kimmel will take place at a later date.

Three Goshen elementary schools — Chandler, Chamberlain and West Goshen — are providing free meals to all students during the school year as part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Community Eligibility Provision of the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. Nearly 80 percent of students at Chandler, 89 percent of students at Chamberlain and 78 percent of students at West Goshen already qualify for free or reduced-price lunches based on their family income. How do you feel about the new lunch program?

I think it’s a good idea to feed all the students free of charge
