Honore Laura (Roberts) Jones

May 4, 1947-June 13, 2013

ELKHART — Honore Laura (Roberts) Jones, 66, formerly of Constantine, Mich., passed away Thursday at the Hospice House in Elkhart. Honore fought a courageous, lengthy, 42-year battle with cancer.

She was born in Three Rivers, Mich., May 4, 1947, a daughter of Tom and Fern (Reardon) Roberts. Honore graduated from Constantine High School, Carter Secretarial School and earned an associate’s degree from Glen Oaks Community College.

She had worked for the Constantine and Three Rivers newspapers, Glen Oaks Community College, St. Joseph County Cancer Society, volunteered at the Salvation Army and was co-owner of Indy Jones Crafts & Treasures. She held various leadership positions in Cub Scouts, Extension Homemakers and the Seventh Day Adventist Church, of which she was a member.

Honore always had a kind word and a giving spirit for others. She made and sent items to the armed forces overseas and to people less fortunate than her. She spent many hours designing and making unique quilts for children in both her family and extended family.

She is survived by her husband, Steven Jones, Elkhart, sons, Ted (Kelly) Keckler, South Bend, and Tim (Chris) Keckler, Elkhart; stepdaughters, Angela Jones, Goshen, and Stephanie (Mike) Meyers, Ossian; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Frederick Paul (Vicky) Roberts; sisters, Marjorie (Robin) Baker and Linda (Matt) Lori, both of Constantine; brother-in-law, Art Bowman, Sturgis, Mich.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Tom E. Roberts; and sister, Merry Bowman.

Relatives and friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Eley Funeral Home in Constantine. Retired Pastor Harry Hartmann will conduct religious services Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
